After retiring as a police detective a year ago, I became a fulltime writer, provider for two spoiled dogs and one spoiled husband. Though I like cats, I’m a big (as in 80 pounds or more) dog lover. My Rottweiler Dizzy suffers from anxiety and has special needs. She must be by my side at all times and played with at regular intervals. She doesn’t care that I’m on deadline when her belly needs scratching. I write under three pennames and my books and magazine articles range from police procedural and the Paleo eating lifestyle to paranormal and contemporary sensual romance. I’m also an avid reader but please give me romance with an HEA. I’m a firm believer in love at first sight and fairy tales. Under my pseudonym Holly S. What’s your latest book Dragons Don’t Love about?

First, let me say that you should really read book one, Dragons Don’t Cry before reading Dragons Don’t Love. I don’t overwhelm you with tons of world building but it will help if you understand dragon realms and the curse that is intricate to the story. There are four dragons left alive after the curse from a Goddess kills the others. The four are bound by the curse and must choose a human virgin bride every one-hundred years. They love her as she lives a human lifespan and eventually dies leaving the dragon to wait until his next claiming to find another companion. The books are about what each dragon must do to break the curse and find forever love.

Why do you feel your dragons are different than other dragon shifter books?

Besides the humor in the stories, each of my dragons is a unique color. Dragons Don’t Cry is Bastian the red dragon, Dragons Don’t Love is Laryn who is blue, Dragons Don’t Forgive is Sarn purple (releasing June 2015), and the last book Dragons Live Forever is Tahr who is silver. Like most dragons they are fire-breathing, arrogant, coveters of sparkly treasure or the greatest treasure—another dragon’s bride. They love deeply and cherish their bride even as she grows too old for more than companionship. Did I mention sexy, panty melting specimens of mankind?

What’s a typical writing day for you?

I actually set a timer so I don’t stay hunched over my computer for more than two hours at a time. I have a speed and heavy bag in my home gym which I tear up to relieve shoulder and neck strain. I’m an avid gardener so at least one of my breaks is spent watering and grabbing fresh fruit or vegetables from the vine and eating on the spot. I also take a short fifteen minute walk once a day so I can say I left the house. Each morning with my drug of choice in hand (coffee), I spend about an hour on social media and answering emails. I write six series and everyone always wants to know when a certain book in a particular series is coming out. I can write from sunrise to long after the sun goes down with nothing but coffee and the occasional potty break so setting a timer is a must.

Who are your favorite authors?

Too many to list them all but in paranormal Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews are at the top of the list. For steamy erotic books I turn to Katy Evans and Lili St. Germain. Mystery/thriller would be Roberts Crais and Lee Child. And for everything hysterically funny and weird Christopher Moore.

Penny Reid never disappoints. As she built us up through the budding relationship of Kaitlyn and Martin, she left us hanging on the edge of our seat at the end of attraction. And in pure Penny form, she devises her twists and turns keeping the reader slightly off kilter.

Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since …, forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.
