Invisisible by L.A. Rememicky

They found each other. Then the killer found them.
Detective Jackson “Jax” McKenna walks into a psychologist’s office and finds that the doctor bears a striking resemblance to his first love, Lainie, who disappeared ten years ago after their disastrous first date ended in violence.
Dr. Elizabeth Parker is really Elaine Wilson, Jax’s Lainie. She’s been in hiding since the night that changed both their lives. Jax discovers the truth when the killer lets Lainie know he’s found her. When Jax and Lainie go into hiding to keep Lainie safe, old feelings resurface as the killer threatens their lives. Can Jax save Lainie and help her stay Invisible?
4 out of 5 Pennies
The title of the book really tells the whole story. As a high school senior, Lainie wears baggie clothes, big glasses, and no make-up to stay off the radar and be left alone – invisible to her classmates and to avoid the attentions of her druggie step-father. Jax, “Jackson the jock”, is full of swagger, using his popularity so his sweet side stays invisible to others. That is, until Lainie is assigned to tutor him and they find the real selves that each has hidden away.
But fate steps in and Lainie is forced to become invisible by changing her identity and beginning a new life to elude her step-father. The story switches between the present, when Lainie and Jax find each other again, and ten years prior, when they first fell in love. It is also told in alternating POV’s. Together again, they go on the run to hide from the step-father who has finally caught up to her after ten years. This is more than just a love on the run story, for Lainie is determined not to be invisible any longer and wants to be seen as a strong woman unafraid to show the world who she is, before she can move on with her life.
This is a fast-paced, intriguing story. My favorite quote, referring to Jax, “He tasted like wine and dreams.” And yes, ladies, even with that, Lainie is able to resist. The question is, for how long?
L.A. Remenicky has always been an avid reader and admits to being a big Stephen King fan. She is a forty-something wife and mother of three fur kids. She reads all genres, but her favorites are romance and horror. Like many of us, she started out with Nancy Drew and moved on to adult romances, with her admitted favorite being “Moonraker’s Bride” by Madeline Brent. She has only started writing recently after thinking about it for years.
