fe comes crashing down. Everything can change in a heartbeat. Can Eaven and Talon overcome the obstacles in their way and find love?

Excerpt

I
stop in the doorway to her room.  I can
see her through the bathroom door in nothing but a towel.  Is Ivy trying to kill me?  A gentleman would turn around and pretend he
never saw anything.  I never claimed to
be gentle.  I take a few steps and I can
see that she is frantically drying her hair.
She keeps flipping it from side to side and over her face.  Her hair is gorgeous.  I want to run my hands through it soon.  I freeze as she turns off the dryer.  I figure I should say something before she
sees me and has a heart attack.
“Hey!  Are you about ready?”  I look around her room so that she doesn’t
realize I can’t keep my eyes off of her.
“Oh
my God!  You scared the crap out of
me!”  She grabs her towel and starts
breathing heavy.  To my surprise she quickly
calms down and starts styling her hair again.
“I’m sorry.  I should have told
you on the phone that I needed a little time to get ready.”
“Don’t
worry.  I can wait.”  I tell her as I sit on the edge of her
bed.  She doesn’t seem to mind me in
here, and I love the view of her focused on herself in the mirror and shaking
her little ass in that towel.  I watch
the bottom edge hoping it will rise up just a little more so I can get a better
view.
“Where
are we going?  I wasn’t sure what to
wear.”  Eaven interrupts my inappropriate
thoughts as I struggle with my sudden lack of motor skills.
“Uh…to
the lake.  My parents have a boat and I
thought we could take it out.”
“I’m
glad I asked then, because I was going to wear a sundress.”  She says as she is putting on lip gloss.  I can’t take my eyes off of her lips.  She is rubbing them together.  I imagine how her lips will taste.  Wait, did she say sundress?
“You
can wear the sundress until the sun goes down.”
She
looks over at me and smiles.  “Ok, I’ll
just bring warmer clothes to slip on when the sun sets.”  It really doesn’t matter what she wears, I
know I will appreciate her.  She walks
toward me and I imagine her dropping the towel, then shoving me back on the bed
to climb over me.  Damn, she doesn’t though.  She grabs a little dress that was on the bed
next to me and begins to rummage through a box on the desk.
I
can’t stand it any longer.  I walk up
behind her and put my arms around her.
Her back is against my chest and I lean down to inhale her scent.  I whisper in her ear, “God, you smell so damn
good.”  I hear her breath hitch and she
leans back into me.
“I want to rip this towel off of
you and lick Every. Single. Inch. Of. You.”
I say softly as I lick and kiss the crook of her neck between my words.  She wraps her arms up over mine and hugs them
to her chest.  I feel my self-control
slipping even more.  I kiss down her
shoulder as she stretches her head the opposite way to give me more
access.  A tiny little moan escapes her
lips and I about lose it in my pants like a fifteen year old boy.

Excerpt

I look over and
see Taron at the band’s reserved table talking to his twin.  My eyes shift to his broad shoulders and the
dark tight shirt that doesn’t leave much to the imagination.  I have been in his arms a few times and I
know that his chest and stomach are sculpted and just as defined as the shirt
makes it appear.  He has dark hair,
almost black.  He wears it messy so that
it looks like he just got out of bed.
The look really works for him.  I
know that he does put effort into his hair because I have been stuck waiting on
him to get ready.
He jumps up to
pester his older brother Holden and I begin to appreciate the view of his ass
in those jeans.  His jeans hang just
right, just the way that I love to see.
I have never let him know that I appreciate how he looks.  He would never let me live it down if I did.
Eaven leaves me
to make her way to Talon and I see Taron begin to search the room.  He spots me and starts to look me up and
down.  His eyes never leave me as he
stalks across the room.
“Poison
Ivy!  It is such a pleasure to see you
out for the kill tonight.”  He takes his
index finger and runs it down my chest and into the valley of my cleavage
causing my shirt to lower.  He stops just
before he exposes me.
“Do you want to
lose that finger?”  I really want him to
continue, but I would never tell him that.
“I would love
for you to take my entire finger.”  He
removes his digit from my chest and I know his meaning behind his reply.  He has never been shy about his sexual desire
with me.
“In your
dreams.”  I turn away from him to begin
my walk to the table.  He stops me after
only a few steps.  He grabs my hips to
hold me against him.  I can feel him
invading my space again.  He is consuming
all of my senses.  He leans down to
whisper in my ear.
“Yea that
pretty much sums it up.”
My body heats
up as his breath blows past my ear.  The
sensation sends a shiver through my body and heat straight to my core.  He holds me so close that I can feel how much
he wants me as it presses into my back side.
“When are you
going to quit playing hard to get?  You
know we will be hot together.  You know
you want what only I can give you.”  He
begins to sway back and forth with the music.
I want what he
is offering me so much.  I want to let go
and ride the roller coaster that is Taron.
I know there will be ups and downs.
I just don’t know if I can hang on until the end and exit the ride
safely.  I don’t know if he will break my
heart.
Usually I don’t
let myself get attached to a guy.  We
have fun and then say our goodbyes.
Taron managed to work his way into my life in a way that we are so
beyond a simple affair without strings.
I just don’t know if he is capable of what I want.
I want
him.  All of him.  To myself.
No sharing.

ReviewDancing with Demons is the 3rd installment to this story. Wendy is trying to deal with the repercussions from her decision not to take the life of Brandt to sustain her own, there is a rift between her and Matt that she can’t seem to fix. Wendy starts the last semester  of her high school career, not knowing if she will live long enough to start college or even knowing what may happen to her next. The other students at her school are still gossiping about her and everything that transpired the previous semester, so trying to keep out of the spotlight doesn’t seem to be working out for Wendy.

Now there are new students that seem to have found their way into the tight group of friends made up by Wendy, Halle, and Jackson and Wendy is not sure how to handle all the changes that have happened in her life along with the changes in her friends lives as well. Feeling a little left out, when the dreams return, but with a much different feel to them, Wendy keeps quiet again. She is keeping secrets and doesn’t have any answers to what will happen next in her life. When it seems as though Wendy is losing control, her mother takes her away for the weekend to get some answers. What happens next is just more questions and decisions that must be made, and without any clue where to start Wendy is confused.

When things out of the ordinary start happening more often, Wendy has made a decision to move away to try and save the lives of the friends she loves. But with emotions running high, Wendy runs into more problems that seem to be out to destroy her.

This was another installment that dragged me under from the start and wouldn’t let go until the end, and I’m still wanting more.

ReviewDancing with Death is about Wendy, a high school senior who has been plagued with nightmares involving murdered girls her same age. The nightmares, along with the murders have been going on for the last 2 years and Wendy is suffering from the knowledge of what the victims have gone through (in her first-hand experience from her dreams).

Wendy has kept her nightmares a secret from her best friends (Halle and Jackson) for the last 2 years, and her resolve is starting to weigh on her, she hates the lies she has told but feels like there is no other way to keep her secret. When the new school year starts, along with a murder of one of her classmates, Wendy is involved in a hit and run accident. She is rescued by a mysterious man who leaves no information as to who he is. Wendy’s life starts to change in a way she has no conscious thought of, she is dressing differently and is attracted to 2 men (Will and Brandt) at the same time.

Wendy finally breaks down and tells her friends about her nightmares and the warnings about her life being in danger. While they try to figure out how to keep Wendy protected, things seem to go from bad to worse. Wendy is caught of guard by the murderer, and after narrowing escaping with her life, she is told by her mother what she really is. Being something not quite human is a bitter pill to swallow, but learning that she must do things she never would have considered to keep herself alive is something Wendy, her best friends, her mother, and her boyfriend must work together to come up with a plan. While the plan doesn’t go as it should, we are reminded that Wendy is a strong young woman who doesn’t turn her back on her beliefs or her morals.

In this book, we are able to see into the life of a teenage girl. With the twists and turns that come up, along with the mystery behind who the murderer is discovered, it was an enjoyable read. As for the remaining story line, I can’t wait to read more.

Review

4 Pennies

4 out of 5 Pennies

Dancing with Deception is a very interesting tale of a teenage girl, Wendy, who is having recurring nightmares. These nightmares are disturbing since they are very descriptive of murders that keep happening in the woods around where Wendy lives, what is even more disturbing to Wendy are the warnings that come from the victims all aimed towards Wendy herself….warnings for her, but Wendy can’t figure out what to do with the information she has been given. How can she stop a murderer if the cops can’t even seem to do that? She has no idea. How can she expose her friends to the horror she is living with? She can’t, so she doesn’t tell them.

Wendy, outside of her nightmares, seems to be a typical teenage girl. She is secretive with her friends, she downplays being tired all the time, she is using lies to cover up the truth. Who would believe her anyway?

This is a short intro to the story line, that just seemed to pull me into the story. I felt as if I was right there, trying to decipher what the clues are and how to change what seems to be happening all around Wendy. I can’t wait to read what is next in this series.

Synopsis
Lately, Emma MacIntyre has been pretending to live the life of a perfect wife while her husband Keith takes control over her family business. With the loss of her parents to a tragic car accident and a fight that causes her brother, Riley, to move out of state Emma chooses to stand by her husband.
While sorting out her parent’s estate, Emma stumbles across a few hidden secrets that she suspects Keith has kept her from. Heartbroken Emma turns to her brother for support, hoping to also rekindle their own broken relationship. When she moves to Boston Emma finds herself reacting to a complete stranger when he is willing to comfort her and listen to her pain.
Is Emma ready to move on with her life and leave the hurt of her failing marriage behind? Will Emma fight the urge to fall once she has been Touched by Another?
Excerpt

There really is so much we need to talk about and I don’t want to push her into anything too soon. The last thing I want to do is hurt her or scare her because I’m moving too fast.
It drives me crazy how much I care about her. I watch as she talks with everyone. Her smile and those eyes can light up a room, at least for me they can. She’s such a caring person; always putting the needs of others before her own. I know one of the things she wanted to accomplish with her move to Boston was to start putting herself first more often. It’s hard for her; it’s not in her nature to push others away. It’s one of her qualities that makes me love her so much. No matter what she needs or what I want to do for her, she always makes a point to make sure I have what I need first.
She’s something so special to me now that I don’t know what I would do if I lost her.

This is the third book in the “Touched” series and give Emma’s background story.  Emma always believed in love and family values, and did her best to make her marriage with Keith work, choosing him over a relationship with her own brother.  However, a series of incidents force her to face the truth, to see her husband for what he is, and while not exactly standing on her own two feet, she at least leaves and goes to Boston to live with her brother Riley and his group of friends.
It is at this point that the reader can really appreciate T. H. Snyder as a weaver of stories.  For here in Boston she brings together all of the characters from the first two books of the series.  It is like meeting old friends if you have followed the series.  But she gives just enough information so new readers can pick this up as a stand alone.  If you follow the series, you already know that Emma meets Pete, who works with her brother Riley.  Here, in Emma’s book, you learn all about how their relationship evolves.
Emma and Pete are in similar circumstances, both in their thirties, both burned by previous relationships, both a little awkward and hesitant about starting over.  Once Pete is introduced into the story, the chapters are told in alternating POV’s, but again, very well done, because it is not a rehashing of the same scene but a continuation of a scene – one character drops the thread and the other picks it up.
The dialogue is humorous and very natural .  The characters are very likeable and believable, and the addition of the other people from the earlier books, Riley, Derrick, Char, and Chloe, just adds to the story.  I can’t wait for the next book – looking forward to the resolution of three relationships!

What I’m Reading ~ A Mermaid’s Lament by Lori Worley (Penny Deb)

MLC1 Book Synopsis

The Mermaid’s Lament by Lori Worley
Publication Date:  December 16, 2013
“My world blurred around me and collapsed in a kaleidoscope of brilliant colors. I felt the faint feeling of my mother’s fingers as she traced the shape of my eyes and the line of my bottom lip but rougher hands replaced them, sealing my nostrils and shoving my head back with unexpected pressure. I could taste the bitterness of all my mother’s lost hope in the witches’ poison, sliding down my throat, thick with resolve. I fought against it, sending tendrils of black mucus into the water around my face. The agony was already spreading as though my father had used the same hand he had restrained me with to begin ripping my tail down the side of me, and then there was only blackness and it was blinding.”
Aggrafina is a mermaid cast out of the sea and the life she knows. She is found by Adrik, a man who is bitter and lost amongst his own kind. The show is where Adrik allows the world a small glimpse into the anomalies that hide in its forests and wash up from its seas. Aggrafina becomes an unwilling participant in the show just as her very presence causes Adrik to become an unwilling participant in reliving parts of his past. Despite the new relationships found within the stone buildings on an isolated island Aggraafina’s restless heart wants only one thing…to go home, but will she?

This is not The Little Mermaid. It is the fairy tale meets reality. And happily ever after? That’s for the reader to decide.

Aggrafina the mermaid was happy in the sea, but her mother longed for life on land. Blinded by an exploding mine, robbed of the sight of her beloved land, she made a deal with the Seawitch to give her daughter the life she craved for herself.

When Aggrafina woke up on the beach, she was neither mermaid nor human. She still had her tail, but she had one leg, and she still had gills. She was rescued from the beach not by her prince, but by Adrik, a shell of a man that hated mermaids and promptly placed her in his freak show.

The story then evolves into that old question – who are the freaks – the customers and Adrik, or the poor souls that are on display?

I know, sounds depressing, right? Still, amidst all of the ugliness, there is beauty and love. Adrik was broken by the sea as Aggrafina was broken by the land.and that knowledge brings them together. Somehow, Aggrafina brings peace and healing to all those suffering around her on land, just as she brought peace to drowning sailors when she was in the sea.

This is not a light read. It is deep and thought-provoking, and the love story exists on a higher plane. Thank you Lori Worley for a story that will stay with me for a long time.
