Ann is haunted by a past that won’t let go. The secrets lurking in Arizona are too much to handle, making a move to Nashville her best chance of survival. Her bakery is enough to keep her mind busy during the day, but the night brings nightmares that threaten to rip her in two. Tired of just living life rather than experiencing it, she’s ready to fight her demons and emerge the victor.
Only—shedoesn’t know how to do that alone.
Duane has a lot on his plate. A lawyer for a prestigious law firm and a ranch owner, he hardly has enough time to breathe, let alone date. But all of that changes when he meets Ann.
A chance encounter at a bar brings them together, but it’s fate that shoves them into each other’s lives for reasons they will soon unveil together.
Can Ann open her heart and let Duane in?
Unable to Resist is a story about love, loss and finding healing in unlikely places.
Ann has her own bakery, lives and works with her best friend Liv in Tennessee. From the outside looking in, it appears that Ann has a good life, but that is far from the truth. She has a past in Arizona that continues to haunt her in her dreams and in life. She has come to except that she is destined to be alone and to never be loved, that she maybe too broken to be loved.
Duane is a gorgeous, southern gentleman, cowboy, lawyer, who had to take on many responsibilities at a young age when both of his parents died. He was left with the family farm/business and his younger brother to raise. Duane has a busy life. He has decided there aren’t any ‘real’ girls out there to be found, so he has given up looking. Until one fateful night when he went out with his brother and guys from the farm to a bar, he had an instant attraction to a girl but wasn’t quite sure what to do about it.
Fate stepped in a second time, when the next day after Ann and Duane’s brief encounter at the bar, Duane showed up on Ann’s doorstep as her new Attorney to help with her father’s unsolved case. At this point neither realized the attraction that the other one had, it was quite a site to watch the two try not to make contact and keep it professional.
The instant attraction and love that Duane and Ann felt for one another is what fairy tales are made from. This book is an amazing story of finding out everything is not always as it seems and sometimes you have to let people in to love you and help you to understand that you are not alone. The characters in this book are truly lovable. Jason, Liz and Mia are amazing friends to Ann. The connection that Duane has with his brother is also a joy to watch.
Here is one of my favorite ‘serious meaningful’ quotes from the book (there were many funny ones between Ann and Duane that I would have loved to share but there is just not enough space, LOL);
‘It’s moments like these when you begin to appreciate all of the hell you went through and endured because it only made you better. It made you stronger. It made you who you are today. Find a way to thank the people who made your life miserable. Make them understand that, because of the shit they put you through, you refuse to back down. Live to prove yourself right. It only takes one second to change your future. So, follow your heart. Take the time to laugh and play-find the good in every moment.’
To me this quote is a great summary of the lessons and meanings that are shown throughout the book. Bottom line life is not all roses and rainbows, everyone has their own struggle, and it is what they chose to do with it that will determine the life they will lead. This story touched me, it made me laugh and it made me cry, but in the end I LOVED every bit of it.
He pulls my hand to his chest, just above his heart, and I feel the strong, steady beat. “My heart only knows one thing for sure.”
I look at our hands, a smile playing on my lips. “And, what’s that?”
He puts a finger under my chin and brings my face up to meet his eyes. “That I want you to be mine. I don’t want to share, Red.”
He looks intently at my face for a moment without wavering, confirming the intensity in the room. “I need to hear you say it,” he breathes out, finally.
I suddenly feel incredibly wanted and my confidence level boosts to an all-time high.
“I,” my lips kiss his chest, “am,” I lightly lick his neck, “yours.”
Duane let’s out an animalistic growl and flips me onto my back, thoroughly ending our conversation with hungry kisses.

Ann is Cassie’s middle name and Duane is Cassie’shusband’s middle name.
Ann is originally from Arizona, as is Cassie.
Cassie has an intense love for baking, which is why she decided to write Ann as a baker.
For most of her life, Cassie rode and showed horses. She felt like she had to write a badass cowboy because they are seriously amazing.
The song, Unable to Resist was written by Cassie and her best friend April.
Liv and Mia are both based on Cassie’s best friends, April and Sandra.
Jason was inspired by her friend, David.
Originally, Unable to Resist was set in Seattle, and Duane wasn’t a lawyer, he was an author.
Cassie Graham is first and foremost, a wife and mother. She has one crazy daughter and a just as nutters husband that she loves dearly. She lives in sunny–all be it, scorching Arizona, where the summers are ridiculously hot and the winters are perfection. She’d pick winter any day.
Cassie went to school to be a teacher, but quit to become a proud military wife in 2010. During that time, she found her passion to write. Being a loud and proud choirgirl in school, she needed another creative outlet and writing seemed like the perfect fit.
If Cassie isn’t writing, she’s more than likely cooking for her family or has her nose buried deep in a book. She finds inspiration in all things. Movies, music, and life fuel her characters’ lives, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
