Abigale Martin, Abi, has grown up in an abusive household. When Lucas saved her from her brothers abuse at school when they were both younger, then for years ignored her, she never thought anyone would try to save the stuttering geek from her own living nightmare. When Lucas pops up at a church picnic, she realizes he just might be her saving grace.
Six years later, Abi finds herself right back where she was as a child, she has turned into her mother. But when Abi realizes she has something worth fighting for, will that be enough to end her nightmare, or will she be forced to do something she will never recover from?
Colter Hudson, Cole, had it all, a fighting career that was taking him to the title fight, a beautiful woman by his side, family money, and a future of taking over the family business. Due to go live the life he always imagined when he turns twenty-five, his life is forever changed on one fateful night.
Cole’s life has spiraled downward, and he is trying to become the man he once was. He has a strict set of rules he is following, and it seems to be working. He is not interested in anyone or anything that may disrupt his plan. What happens when everything he wanted is standing right in front of him, will he be able to be the man he was before his nightmare of a life changed him into a monster?
Cole can’t stop the feelings he has, but his fear is keeping him away. Abi has to learn she is stronger than she thinks, and she has to fight for herself and her future. Will the past constantly haunt the present, or will the future not be able to be the dream both are looking for?
Pasts have to be overcome, before the future even stands a chance
Tattered Hearts grabbed me and wouldn’t let go, it still hasn’t. While reading this book, you can’t help but cheer on Cole and Abi, they both are trying to figure out just what life has in store for them next.
Abi, has had a rough life, she has never had a relationship, with anyone, that was good for her. She was raised in a house where she had from life, along with hiding from her abusive father. She would cover up her bruises, trying to make sure she was invisible by any and everyone around her. Lucas has protected her once when they were small kids, then as teenagers, she can’t help but see him as her prince charming. Lucas takes Abi away, and things are good, at least for a while they are.
Lucas is trying to make it as a cage fighter, which leaves Abi to try and take care of everything else. When some life altering news comes, Abi must decide is she strong enough to stand up for herself, or has fate handed her a stack of cards that she has no chance of winning? Abi left home, and her abusive father six years ago, but she finds herself in the same situation as before, but this time the stakes are higher, and she must find her own strength.
Cole, lost everything he never knew he wanted. He is trying to save himself from the hell his life has turned into. When it seems as if Abi just might be everything he needs and wants, Cole has to walk a fine line. Cole has set rules for himself, to prove not only to everyone around him, but also himself, that he is no longer the monster he was. Fighting his feelings, but also following them, Cole sets out to help Abi, and to see if what he feels for her is also felt by her towards himself. It’s a fine line, and with both of them having such strong feelings for each other, the only thing Cole can do is separate himself from Abi.
This story is heartbreaking, but also so loving. I couldn’t help but fall hard for Cole, he just wiggled his way into my heart and I was trying to understand why he was as unsure of himself when all I could see was the good (now, don’t get me wrong, Cole did do something’s in his past that maybe he shouldn’t have, but that was just it….his past). Abi, was a little slower, she had to earn her way into my heart (it’s not that I didn’t feel for her or her situation, it is just…I don’t know, she had to earn my respect, and she did), and now that she is there I am cheering her on, she deserves it, but I will have no problems yelling at my Kindle if she messes up. Lucas is a hard one for me. You can tell that he loves Abi, or at least believes he does, and he has been with her through good and bad, while I really don’t want to see Abi and Lucas end up together (yes, I am a Cole girl), Lucas needs to get back to the man he was when him and Abi first got together. But yes, he also had me shaking my head, saying “Oh, Sh*t, please…..please, no!”
Tattered Hearts does end with me wanting to go find Quira Quin and asking her to please hurry up with the next book, but so few books have me on edge for this long. I mean that in a good way, there is the fear that this story might involve more of a love triangle, which I prefer not to read about (that is just me, being me), but all in all, the characters were so well written that I felt like I could really be friends with all of them, maybe be more open with some than others. As soon as I finished this book, I messaged Quira Quin, saying how much I enjoyed the book, but that she better hurry up with the next one. Read it, you’ll see why. 😉
