Moxie Summers is a curvy, twenty-six year-old teacher who has not had the best track record with relationships. In a drunken stupor at a bar, she meets Miles who turns out to be her sparing equal, until she vomits all over his shoes. Just when she thinks things couldn’t get worse, her dream man turns out to be the single father of the newest student in her class.
While fighting an attraction for Miles, Moxie’s conniving stepmother tries to advise Moxie she needs to get in shape if she’s ever going to catch the man of her dreams. To make matters worse a Girl Scout plans Moxie’s demise, a surprise party makes everyone blush, and then there was the skunk…
Can Moxie overcome all the Girl Scout cookies, food poisoning and a showdown at Costco to get to Miles?
This book had me laughing out loud. Moxie is a kindergarten teacher and she definitely has her hands full with her group of kids. The stories that come from their morning sharing time are absolutely hilarious. The kindergartners say whatever comes to mind and I truly don’t know how she keeps it together with a straight face.
Moxie is a force to be reckoned with, she has a mouth that won’t stop and has no filter, she has the most awesome gay friend Ryan as well as her good friend Renee that teaches at the same school as her. Then she also has the true definition of evil step-mother, who thinks that Moxie is too big to ever find love, if she would just go on a diet and lose some weight she would be a much better person is what her step mother thought.
The strength that Moxie showed in being a beautiful individual inside and out was amazing, but due to the evil step-mother she still had the underlying doubts about why anyone would want to be with her. Her constant wisecracking personality I believe is her way to shield herself from being hurt. So when she met Miles and he was able to give it back to her just as good as she gave it, she was not sure what to think.
Miles is a widow who has moved to Chicago from Maine with his son Dillon to start a new job closer to family after his wife’s tragic death. Dillon ends up being a student in Moxie’s class, which helps lead to some pretty crazy circumstances and interactions between Miles and Moxie. You can tell from their first meeting (even though Moxie was drunk) that there was going to be some kind of connection between the two of them. Miles has secrets that he has yet to share with Moxie, which cause a wedge between them.
This story is an outrageously crazy, romantic comedy, with some pretty heated sexual innuendos, drunken rants, good times with great friends, lots of talk of ‘hairy balls’, and good old fashioned love thrown in to make a book that you don’t want to miss. It was easy to immediately love Moxie, she is the type of person you would want to have as a friend. The trials that she experiences with dating are difficult at times, but in the end she finds you can’t fight fate and what is meant to be will be.
As a little girl it was always a dream for Z.B. Heller to become She-Ra Princess of Power. Since this dream was unobtainable, she spent what was probably way to long in college trying to “find herself”. Becoming an artist scratched the creative itch until the stories in her head were getting to be to loud for her to get anything else accomplished. She lives in St. Louis with her husband, son and Flemish Giant rabbit Chloe. In her spare time she likes to read, stalk celebrities on Twitter and create the type of art that people scratch their heads about.
